A Favourable Future For Uk Energy

Energy is one of life's essentials and is used for almost everything in day to day life, from heating your home to charging your mobile phone.

As some types of energy are non-renewable it is important to explore renewable sources, something the British government are investing time and resources into. A large amount of the United Kingdom's renewable energy is generated on a large scale basis, such as wind farms or hydroelectric power plants. There are also lots of ways to generate your own renewable energy at home.

The fossils fuels typically used to heat the home are coal, oil and gas. These fuel types take millions of years to replenish so renewable energy technologies like wind turbines, solar panels and biomass heaters offer a practical alternative that are not only replenishable but also help you to reduce your homes CO2 emissions.

There are several alternatives to using fossil fuels within the home. Swap coal, oil and gas for wind, sun and flowing water to cut energy consumption, protect the environment and help fight climate change.

There are various technologies you can use at home to generate both heat and electricity. Solar water heating uses heat from the sunshine which is soaked up through solar collectors that are fitted to your roof.

You can also use the suns energy to produce electricity for your homes lighting and appliances. A solar photovolatics (PV) system involves installing solar PV panels on your homes roof. These panels turn sunlight into electricity, saving you money and protecting the environment.

Saving energy around the home is another way to help the United Kingdom's energy supplies. Simply turning your heating down a few notches makes a huge difference, as do other small actions such as switching electrical appliances off when not in use and insulating your home.

It is also planned that by 2020 every British household will receive a Smart Meter Smart Meters will remove the need for estimated readings and mean that meter readings can be taken at any time of the night or day without the need for a visit from a meter reading agent as the information is sent electronically.

Smart Metering also helps you to monitor your energy consumption more accurately. It should therefore be easier to see how much energy you are using and this in turn makes it easier to see how much energy, and money, you are saving by making small changes around the home. You can even compare your current energy consumption to what you used last week, last month or even last year.
