Pulse Oximeter C-21 For Portable Copd Monitoring Solutions

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to chronic bronchitis and emphysema, a pair of two commonly co-existing diseases of the lungs in which the airways become narrowed. This leads to a limitation of the flow of air to and from the lungs causing shortness of breath. Projections by experts predict that COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States with an economic burden of approximately $42.6 billion in health care costs and loss of productivity. Other names for COPD include chronic obstructive lung disease (COLD), chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD), chronic airflow limitation (CAL) and chronic obstructive respiratory disease (CORD).

A pulse oximeter is a small, hand-held medical device that measures the oxygen saturation of a patient's blood (SpO2) as well a patient's heart rate. One of the most common symptoms of COPD is shortness of breath also known as dyspnea.  Those with COPD may notice dyspnea even during milder, everyday activities such as housework. Patients can monitor their blood oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter and share the results with their physician in order to determine the appropriate medical remedies required. Due to their portability, a pulse oximeter is particularly useful when the patient is on the move and has to measure their oxygen levels wherever they go.
