Solar Energy Water Heater Categories
Solar Energy Water Heater First, let us understand by solar energy water heater. This is a solar system used for heating up the water using sun's radiations as solar energy. Solar energy water systems are comprised of solar thermal collectors, interconnecting pipes or tube, a water storage tank and a fluid system which lets the water move from collector to the tank. The water can be heated for home and personal use and even for industrial uses. There are commercial purposes also such as heating water of the swimming pools, under floor heating etc.
Types of solar energy water heater: There are mainly two types of solar energy water heater which can be used for heating the water. They are elaborated as below: Passive solar energy water heater: A passive system is one form of solar water heater in which the system has tank for the heated water and solar collector which is mounted on the same roof. The system heats pipes to transfer the heat energy from the water collector to the tank. A unique and special type of water heater is known as Integrated Collector storage (ICS). In this type of system, the tank acts as both storage and collector. These systems are very simple, efficient and economical than other solar energy water systems. These systems do not contain mechanical and electrical parts and hence reduces the costs of maintenance and supervision. This is the reason why these systems are considered as simple and cheap. However, before considering them, you need to check that the efficiency of these systems is lower than that of active systems.
Active Solar energy water heater: The active solar energy water heaters are of two types; one is called direct active systems and the other is indirect active systems. They differ in their functionalities. Let us discuss them in detail; direct active systems are able to circulate the water directly to the collector and then send back to the storage tank, on the other hands, indirect active systems circulate transfer fluid which is then transferred to the stored water in storage tank. These systems have many advantages as listed below: 1.These systems are easily installed that the passive solar energy water heaters. It allows the freedom of the location so it is very easy to be installed where the heat loss from the tank is reduced which in turn increase the efficiency of the solar water heating system. 2.These systems have rather reduced risk of overheating. If the water in solar hot water system is not used, it will get overheated which can be prevented by activating a pump that cools down the water in the storage tank.
These systems are not as costly. The costs of the systems includes price of purchases, installation costs, annual maintenance costs etc. The small and cheaper systems can be used for homes and domestic needs and comparatively larger systems are used for commercial purposes such as buildings, organizations and corporate use etc.
