What is important about where you live?

What is important about where you live? Plenty of job opportunities? Good schools? Reasonably priced property? Distance from work? We all have our own reasons for choosing where we live but how many of us consider the actual geographical location?

Crewe and the surrounding areas of Nantwich, Sandbach, Alsager, Middlewich and Winsford are pretty well located. Taking Crewe as a reference point, about 33 miles to the North is Manchester, together of course with the airport. About 30 miles North West is Liverpool, again with a major airport. So not only are there two international airports within an hours drive which give access to the rest of the world, there are also two well known cities with all they have to offer. Have you ever eaten in Chinatown in Manchester? Absolutely fabulous! Not forgetting that Liverpool, amongst many other attractions also has its own Chinatown. Both cities are well worth a visit for a host of reasons.

Just over 20 miles to the West is the border of North Wales and just a little further is Chester.  Just over 36 miles South West is Shrewsbury with access to Mid Wales. Stoke lies about 12 miles to the East and just a few miles further is the A50 that cuts across the country for access to Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Go South East from Crewe for 35 miles and you will arrive at Stafford.  Birmingham is about 56 miles south along the M6, which itself is about 6 miles East of Crewe and closer still to Sandbach and Alsager.

But let's not forget about the Grand Junction Railway Station in Crewe that gives relatively easy access to anywhere in the UK. For example, London is just over 2 hours away by train.

The peak district, Staffordshire moors, North Wales and even the sea side are not too far away and we also need to remember that Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager, Winsford, Sandbach and Middlewich are also in Cheshire which in itself is a beautiful area with miles and miles of canals cutting through some of the prettiest countryside in the UK.

Some of the more local attractions are Beeston and Peckforton castles, Delamere Forest, Cholmondeley Castle and Gardens and let us not forget that Nantwich town itself is lovely with many of its Tudor houses still present.  In addition, not only does Nantwich have an indoor swimming pool but also an outdoor Brine swimming pool for the warmer days!

There are many other noteworthy areas of interest such as Winsford flashes, the Saxon Crosses at Sandbach and a whole host more, but one of the other main benefits of the area is that it is in what is known as the "Cheshire Bowl" because it is surrounded by the Welsh mountains, the Pennines and the Peak District which means it is protected from the worst weather. The fact is that if there is heavy rainfall here there are floods elsewhere; if there are a couple of inches of snow here, there are other areas of the UK with a couple of feet of snow!

So if you live locally perhaps you will look at your home area differently. We all tend to take for granted what we have on our doorstep but by choice or accident we live in an area we should be proud of. Why not make the most of it!
