Are you getting frustrated with rising energy costs? Have you been thinking about building a small residential wind turbine? You're not the only one. Given the increased price of conventional power sources, many people are considering the benefits of making their own wind generator or turbine. Before embarking on this venture however, there are a few things you should educate yourself about.Determining how a home turbine works, what you'll need to build one, and where to get those items from ahead of time will save you money, time and frustration. It is important to make sure you understand the basics of a home wind power generating system long before you get started. Familiarizing yourself with the individual components that make up a home wind power system will decrease the likelihood that you will lose time and money to problems that could easily have been avoided by doing your homework ahead of time. One of the first and most important things to consider is where you're going to build your turbine. Of course you need to have the room on your property, and in addition you need to determine the most optimal spot in terms of being able to capture the largest amount of wind power. Typically this will involve being far enough away from any obstacles that could block wind flow to the turbine. Another important aspect of locating a site for your wind generator is that the location must meet the local zoning requirements of your town or municipality. You don't want to skip checking on zoning rules and end up making a mistake that will cost you money and time. So first, contact your local or state zoning agency and then within those confines determine the optimal site in terms of wind and the features of your available property. The next thing to consider is the tower that will support your wind turbine. The tower needs to be tall enough to place your turbine in wind that is strong enough to generate sufficient power and the higher you go, the more power you'll generate. However the higher you go, the stronger your tower will need to be and the greater the cost will be. Remember you want your wind turbine to remain standing even in the face of hurricane force winds. Another reason to limit the height of your tower is that as you go higher the increase in wind power won't pay off for the increased cost of your tower. The tower can end up being the most expensive part as it the biggest. Thus you can see that it makes good sense do your homework ahead of time. This is true whether you build your own and purchase a tower. Keep in mind that if you build your own, there may be liability issues so consider this drawback and weigh it against any extra cost of simply buying a manufactured tower.Getting started on building your own wind turbine system can seem daunting but with proper preparation you can avoid running into trouble by addressing issues such as those discussed above before you begin.

It is estimated that our natural resources will be completely depleted within the next 150 years. It is because of this that we as a society need to be actively searching for sources of alternative energy.
Alternative energy, whether it is used to replace fuels such as coal, or to reduce our reliance on petroleum based fuels; alternative energy is one of the most important issues facing society today.
The two most common types of alternative energy are:
* Wind power
* Solar power
Both of these alternative energy sources are harnessed from natural resources, and as such are completely free. Only the equipment and technology cost money, and over time as we advance the costs should be reduced.
It is these free sources of alternative energy that we should be pursuing with the most fervency, so that, eventually, energy can be available to all regardless of income. Below we will take a look at these two most common sources of alternative energy.
Wind Power
Wind power, while a free source of alternative energy, would be the most costly type of renewable energy to power our nation. This is largely in part to the fact that we must first place wind turbines across the country, in enough numbers to provide electricity to communities nationwide, even in areas where the wind velocity is not as strong. The cost of building enough of these turbines to harness the wind's alternative energy would be staggering.
Also these wind turbines are very unsightly and would ruin very beautiful and scenic parts of the country. It should also be noted that they only produce power 1/8 of the time that they are running. That is not very efficient, but we are on the right track, things just need improvement.
Another problem I see with wind turbines is the amount of profit many companies stand to make for putting them in. Individuals are making millions off of this and that is just not right when our well-being is at stake.
However, if you're interested in using wind power as your own source of alternative energy, it is a viable option. Many farms and rural communities use these wind turbines to power themselves. In smaller numbers, the cost of building the turbines pays for itself relatively quickly. But wind energy is only one form of alternative energy. Next, we will look at using solar power as an alternative power source.
Solar Power
Solar power is alternative energy derived from the power of the sun. Solar energy is also completely free, except for the cost of installing the equipment necessary to convert the sun's rays into usable electricity. This equipment is becoming less and less expensive every day. Solar power generally ends up paying for itself within the first few years.
The equipment needed to use solar power as an alternative energy source for your home can be bought at virtually any home improvement store, and can usually be installed in just a few hours. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, there are a great number of contractors available who can install your solar panels and generators for you.
Regardless of which type of alternative energy you choose to use in your own home, the fact remains that we must find a renewable source of energy soon, or be at risk of losing the few natural resources we have left to burn. Contact your Congressman today, and ask what is being done to find a good source of alternative energy; and what you can do to help.

Madison Greene is like anybody else. She is interested in saving the planet and finding alternatives for depleting natural resources.
Wind turbines are the best answer to the high and rising cost of energy. Electricity created from wind power is the best answer to one of today's most serious problems--the high cost of fossil fuels.
There are other ideas which may help of course. Solar power is clean but,at the present time, solar panels are quite high priced and have limited power output. Their best use is probably as an addition to wind power production. They can be used as roof panels on a building and will supply additional power.
Nuclear power is another source and this form of power is being used in many places around the globe. The cost to build nuclear power plants is very high however and there is a lot of public opposition to their use after the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl disasters.
Nuclear power stations will probably be a large part of future power supply around the world. If well built with all necessary safeguards they have been shown to be dependable and safe.
Wind power is at present the best all around power source for small scale power generation. Small individually owned wind power turbines can supply a large portion of our power requirements in the years immediately ahead.
Many companies are now offering wind turbine generators for sale to the general public. They are being installed by town and country property owners in ever growing numbers.
An alternative is to build a wind turbine, from available plans,at a very big cost saving. Any home owner or farmer in city or country may use this type of low cost power and be completely independent of the local power utility.
It is not even necessary to have high winds all the time. Even gentle breezes will generate some power. This power can be stored in batteries for future use.
A very good wind turbine power generator can be built using new or used auto parts. It may be installed on a roof or on its own tower. The construction of a turbine from available plans and instructions is really quite simple. The average person who can use simple tools will have no trouble in building one or more of these wind generators.
Excess power which is produced can be sold to the local power utility in many places. This type of wind turbine or windmill was much used on farms in the 1930-1950s era and was proven to be reliable. Two or three of them can be built to supply all the power needed and this can be stored in batteries till needed for use. Build it and the wind will come-- and bring free power along with it for your use.

Are there any back up techniques?

Wind Turbine systems are available in several designs according to the way they store surplus power generated. For example:

Grid Connected Off Grid Stand alone Hybrid System etc.

Incidentally the applications of each of the above types will depend on the;

Availability of the National Power Grid within an economically viable distance. Ability to sell back surplus power to the National Grid. Buy-back price of unit energy uploaded Whether a reasonable and consistent wind flow is available at the site through out. Availability of a stand-by battery bank of adequate capacity and maintenance of it.

Of these the Grid connected and Stand Alone systems possess the ability to provide continuous power supply to the end user. A hybrid system will possess the same capability subject to it works as a stand alone system.

Stand Alone Small Wind Turbines

Stand Alone systems are Wind Turbines not connected to the Grid Supply but uses a battery bank to store surplus energy generated when the optimum wind velocity is available. The Electrical Energy stored in the battery bank will supplement the power needs of the home as Direct Current (generally below 5 kw) or in the case of higher capacity generators (generally above 5 kw, as Alternating Current.

In the case of the low capacity DC generators the surplus power generated will be directly stored in the battery bank. If the appliances and the power distribution of the home is AC oriented an inverter will be used to convert the power to AC prior to feeding the home distribution.

If the Wind Turbine is generally over 5 kw the electrical energy generated will be alternating current and cannot be stored in the Battery Bank direct. The inverter in this instance will be converting AC to DC for this purpose after stepping down the voltage from 230V (415V if it is 3 phase) to 12 V DC (nominal) generally and stored in the Sealed Lead Acid Battery bank. The inverter will convert the stored energy to AC again when the home demand dictates so.

Hybrid Wind Turbine Systems

A hybrid system will be similar in general to the above stand alone system but will incorporate Solar Powered PV Panel arrays (or diesel Generator Sets) to supplement the wind generated power in situations where the wind velocities decrease due to climatic or geological reasons during the year. The PV panel arrays have purpose designed inverters. Controls for matching the two systems are too necessary. Therefore one must be careful as to what he has to order additionally. Professional assistance in all these cases is therefore strongly advised.

Storage Battery Banks

The battery bank will require quite a few safety devices (such as over charge cut-out, Over current and voltage regulators etc) and controls which are generally solid state. The battery bank is located in a well ventilated (preferably air conditioned) room which is isolated from living areas. (This is because they release corrosive fumes and also pose an explosion hazard to some extent).

Adequate space for regular maintenance is a must. The batteries are of the deep cycle type (regular charging and discharging up to 80% of it's capacity is possible). Automotive batteries (shallow Cycle type) are not suited for this application.

Grid Connected Small Wind Turbines

A grid connected Wind Turbine Power System does not need such a huge array of additional components. It requires only an inverter to make the generated electricity supply compatible with the grid supply along with the necessary power cabling and controls. When the wind generated power is not adequate all it has to do is to draw the additional demand from the power grid. A kwh meter is of course required whether you want to buy the short supply or sell the excess production to the utility.

The cost of power cabling and installation may be high if the distance it has to be drawn is far. As you see it is possible to obtain a consistent power supply from small wind turbines. Under proper guidance these could be made very cost effective too.

Wind turbines are not capable of providing uninterrupted steady power by themselves simply because the wind velocities incident on them fluctuate widely.

Small Wind Turbines are good for power generation as long as the wind velocities 4.5m/s upwards is available. What if wind velocities drop below 4.5 m/s or rise above 16 m/s?

With high electricity bills and concerns for the environment, many people look for alternative sources of energy. One of the most popular and easy to install is a wind generator. But how do wind turbines work? The process is quite simple, really, and looks a lot like the old grain windmills with, of course, a lot of technology advances added over the years. The basic process on how wind turbines work goes like this:

the wind blowing moves the blades the blades turning move a rotational shaft the energy produced goes to a generator to turn it into electricity the DC electricity is then stored in batteries a cable drives it to a DC/AC inverter so you can use it for your AC appliances

As you can see, it's an easy process, which is a reason why so many people have had no difficulty in building their own wind generators with a basic understanding on how do wind turbines work. Nevertheless, before starting on your wind generator project, here is some information you might find useful. First, keep in mind that it is a good thing to verify different locations where you're planning to install your wind turbine(s). Checking the strength of the wind and its direction will allow you to find the best and most efficient location for you. Also, it might be beneficial to get this information at different heights, as the wind blows usually stronger on higher grounds. It's pretty easy to adjust the size of the pole holding the wind turbine to fit what suits you best.

Keep in mind that, depending on where you live, the Government might allow grants or some type of tax benefits to people building alternative sources of energy. Making some research on the subject might enable you to build your wind turbines at a fraction of the cost and is well worth the effort of looking for information on the subject. Oh, and look for the information yourself; don't rely only on a friend or neighbor telling you about it, as he might have been misinformed.

Finally, know that a basic knowledge on how do wind turbines work is almost all you need to get started. And the good news is that many DIY kits are available, explaining you in detail how to proceed to build your own wind turbine, making the project easier to do than ever.

A word of caution, however: not all guides are created equal. In order to save you time and money, it's a good idea to check some reviews made by professionals and consumers alike. It'll make the experience much more agreeable, knowing you've chosen the best guide available. So get started today, and you'll find yourself looking forward receiving your electricity bill with a broad smile!

Building your own wind turbine for your home is very easy. There are a lot of manuals available that you can download and for your convenience we have reviewed the top three. Wind turbines are the answer to today's high cost of energy. Totally independent from the price of oil,gas or coal, electricity created from wind power is the best answer to one of today's most pressing problems--the high cost of fossil fuels. There are other solutions which can help of course. Solar power is a good example but,at the present time, solar panels are still very expensive and have limited power output. Their best use is as an adjunct to wind power. They can be used in the form of roof panels on a building to supply additional power.
Nuclear power is another obvious answer and this form of power is being developed in various places around the world. The initial cost of nuclear power plants is very high however and there is much opposition to their use after the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents. Properly built and supervised nuclear power stations will probably be a large part of future power supply around the world.
Wind power is presently the most promising power source for small scale power generation. Individually owned wind power generators can supply a substantial portion of our power requirements in the years immediately ahead. Wind turbine generators are now manufactured by a number of companies and are in use by rural and city dwellers on an increasing basis. Another alternative is to build your own wind turbine at a very substantial saving. It is possible for any farmer or home owner, whether located in city or country,to access this free form of electric power and so become completely independent of the power utility. It is not necessary to have continuous high winds. Power is generated by even the gentlest of breezes.
A very good wind turbine can be constructed using used or new auto parts. Installation can be on a building's roof or on it's own freestanding tower. It is actually quite simple to construct a wind turbine from available plans and instructions. The average person with a little home workshop experience can build one or several of these turbines quite easily. The power utility in many areas will now buy any excess power which you generate. This type of wind turbine has been proven to be extremely relisble and was used widely on farms in the period from 1930-1950s. Two or three of them can be built to supply as much power as needed and the power can be stored in batteries ready for use. Build a wind turbine and the wind will find it and bring you free power.Like to know more about wind turbines and how to build one? In the United States wind energy is the second biggest source of new energy outpaced only by natural gas. At the end of 2007 wind turbines were producing over 16000 megawatts of electric power and nearly one third of that capacity was installed in 2007. In 2008 about 1% of the united States electric power will be supplied by wind energy. Most of this of course is from large commercial wind turbines but an ever increasing amount is coming from small wind turbines installed by individuals. The home wind turbine is definitely coming into its own as more and more people realise that something must be done to decrease our dependence on electric power supplied by fossil fuel burning generating stations. Gas and coal powered electric power production has increased dramatically over the years and emissions from the fuels burnt in these facilities is a major source of atmospheric pollution.
Wind power by comparision is absolutely clean and the only objectiion to it,voiced by some people,is visual pollution from the arrays of wind turbines necessary for large scale power production. However the residential wind turbine poses no such problems. Relatively small and unobtrusive home wind turbines including vertical axis wind turbines are the key to small scale wind power generation. A combination of home solar panels-wind turbines can produce much of the power required by the average home. Small wind powered turbines are manufactured by a number of companies and can be readily set up either as a rooftop wind turbine or mounted on its own small tower. The recommended tower height is about 30 feet. These are relatively expensive but will pay for themselves in the course of time.
If you know how to build a wind turbine your home wind turbine will cost much less and fortunately this is fairly easy to do. Plans and instructions showing how to build your own wind turbine are readily available and thousands of people have built their own home made wind turbine. You will often be told that strong winds are needed for wind power generation. This is absolutely not so. Even gentle breezes will produce power which is stored in batteries till needed.
If you live far from electric power lines you either get by with no electric power or generate your own. Gasoline powered generators will do the job but they are expensive to run and heavy polluters. You may be fortunate enough to have a stream which can generate power for you using a water power system but these are usually difficult to build and expensive. In most situations a wind turbine is the best answer. You can in fact build your own wind turbine for much less than the price of a commercial model. You could install two or three of them and have plenty of power for all purposes. Building your own home wind turbine is a fairly simple project which the average home workshopper can easily manage. Wind power is the coming thing and will save you money as well as reducing atmospheric pollution. Why not try it?Like to know how to build your own low cost wind turbine easily?

The traditional method for water disinfection comes from the use of chemical and chlorine treatments. Disinfectant chemicals and chlorine are hazardous chemicals; which present many potential dangers with the handling and transporting of these products. An advanced Eco-friendly technology based on the century old idea of using salt electrolysis introduces a "Greener", safer and more successful application for water disinfection alternatives. This "Green" innovative water disinfection advancement comes from the MIOX Corporation and their award winning patented technology. This new Eco-friendly solution allows for on-site disinfectant generation while eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals, solving transporting dangers and eliminating the storing and disposing of hazardous containers.

MIOX Corporation is a water treatment company that was founded in 1994 and has been progressively moving towards the goals of today and becoming more of an environmentally friendly company that offers "Green" solutions to the major problems of today's water disinfection. From their Albuquerque, New Mexico plant they began manufacturing on-site Eco-friendly salt electrolysis water disinfectant generators. The MIOX technology was created by their world-class scientists; while working under a government contract. The goal was to develop a way of purifying water through the use of a portable disinfecting unit; which could be used in extremely remote areas and for highly contaminated water applications.

Today; MIOX's installed on-site environmentally friendly salt electrolysis technology serves millions of customers worldwide using their patented hypochlorite or advanced mixed oxidant water disinfectants. Their new "Green" patented on-site water disinfectant manufacturing system; which uses the salt electrolysis idea to generate an on-demand chlorine disinfectant; safely and cost effectively disinfects over 6.5 billion gallons of water per day. Their cutting edge environmentally friendly patented technology includes the on-site manufacturing of water disinfectant through a combination of salt, water and electricity (salt electrolysis); effectively eliminating the conventional methods of using truck deliveries of hazardous chemicals. Through this Eco-friendly advanced technology and on-site disinfectant generation; MIOX have successfully cut back transportation requirements by 80%; which reduces fuel consumption and lowers carbon emissions.

The MIOX Corporation holds numerous patents, produces many U.S. manufactured products and "MIOX" is an internationally registered trademark. They are the innovative water treatment specialists that serve many commercial and industrial applications; some of which include commercial swimming pools, portable water supplies, cooling towers, military and cruise ships, food processing and beverage industries; among others.

Over the years, the MIOX experts have worked with many agencies; including The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The World Health Organization (WHO). The MIOX products are certified by the International for Drinking Water Systems Components (NSF) and are listed by the U.S. EPA as a Compliance Technology. MIOX Corporation has been listed as a "Going Green" Top 100 company for their environmentally friendly innovations and has received the President's "E" Award for Excellence in Exporting as well as been awarded the Popular Science Best of What's New Grand Award for Innovation.

With the rising transportation costs, stricter regulations, and spiking chemical costs many companies, including Clorox, have been searching for safer, more environmentally friendly and more cost effective alternatives. It has been estimated that the average investment for all necessary equipment to handle the environmentally friendly water treatment capacity of between 24,000 gallons to about 500 million gallons per day would have a 1-3 year ROI (Return on Investment). This "Green" technological breakthrough might just provide more companies a viable cost effective option with the incorporation of "Eco-friendly" and safer water disinfection practices.

Before we know it, hurricane season will be upon us. This year it seems there's been many natural disasters. Hurricanes are usually accompanied by strong rains and winds which can change directions quickly. The fact that the hurricane season is coming up makes it important to know the steps to prepare. Without proper preparation you can lose your life, home, be out of water and experience other calamities. Without panic, it's good to think out what is needed and get hurricane supplies ahead of time.

Meet with the family and discuss the risks involved. A few of the areas to think out include power outages, personal injuries, evacuation, water supply, electricity, food, dealing with high winds. Post emergency phone numbers and prepare your first aid kits. Stock up on food supply. Know what schools are open in case you need to evacuate.

We don't know how long the hurricane will last so it is advisable to stock up on essentials. It is better to but foods that are ready to eat like canned foods but still have a high nutrition value. Also consider the elderly or infants, they might need special foods or medications. If a loved one is on dialysis think out ways to deal with this situation. Having a generator can be very helpful for many situations including cooking and high heat temperatures.

Store food in a cool dry place. Remember drinking water. Is your home secured? Do you have hurricane shutters? Is anything loose outdoors that can fly around and cause damage to a person or property? Repair loose boards, doors and tighten screws. Do you know the condition of your roof? Also check your appliances, check and be sure that you have fresh new batteries for your flashlights, radios and other battery operated things. If you don't have a radio, it's good to get one as you may not be able to watch tv or use your cell phone.

Check and secure furniture so that it will not be movable by sinds. Board up windows or tape them to avoid shattering. There are no guarantees but being prepared is the best way to start. Keep in mind that you should be level headed and calm. Always have a backup plan. There are often shelters that open up that are available should you be unable to remain in your home.

Did you know that even if we constantly use electricity for lights, air-conditioner, television or whatever electric appliance we have, we can still be an electricity saver? We just need to make a conscious effort to make electricity saving a part of our everyday lives and shift to more sustainable means.

To appreciate how you can become an electricity saver, first, some general information on electricity. Most electricity used in average homes comes from traditional power plants that uses water, heat (coal) or on some case, nuclear energy. However, even if you are conscious of electricity saving, if your electricity comes from these energy sources, you are still contributing to degradation of nature.

These are the usual sources of electricity that unfortunately produce by-products that are considered harmful to the environment.

At the same time, fossil fuels that are used in coal power plants are non-renewable energy sources. This means that it would be very hard to replenish these resources if we are to use them more. If you consume energy from these source, you need all the more be an electricity saver because these energy sources get depleted rapidly if you use it up more.

Hence, the more electricity we consume, the more by-products are developed, the more we deplete these hard-to-replace natural resources, and in the end we put our environment at risk all the more. By being an electricity saver you and I can help reduce the carbon footprint in our mother earth.

The question is, does electricity saving that include decreasing consumption of electricity by using electricity saver or energy saver devices, enough? The answer is a big No.

The real and authentic electricity saver and environmentally sound option is the use of alternative or renewable energy. For instance by using the energy of the sun, you can become an energy saver. Solar panels make use of the sun's energy which is considered the ultimate renewable energy because it can never be exhausted.

Our sun can actually provide more than the energy requirement of the entire world, if only we know how to effectively use this energy saver. Unfortunately, only a fraction of the population makes full use of this energy source.

Many people do not realize that the cost of solar power is much cheaper than usual sources of electricity. This electricity saving option is even regarded as the best energy saver, among all the options. Just think about the electricity saving that we all will generate if we can harness the full power of the sun. Hence, solar panel can be an electricity saver in the real sense.

Be an energy saver and use LED lamps instead of the conventional light bulbs, or start using solar powered lamps, cars, heaters and panels. These are all electricity saving generators that are available in the market today. Recognizing the importance of solar energy, today's technology has developed electricity saver tools that use energy more efficiently.

Another "scientific" approach to electricity saving is the use of qualitative method where electricity usage is analyzed.

Another form of renewable and green energy that can be considered an electricity saver is the energy coming from the wind. Especially on those region where the sun does not shine that much, wind energy is a good option.

Even the federal government recognizes the need to save energy and promote electricity saver. For instance, the government offers tax breaks for those who conduct research on electricity saving.

As an effective energy saver tool, tariff structures are imposed on commercial electrical companies. There are also various laws that support the use of solar panels as electricity saver. This helps consumers be more conscious of the wattage they spend and focus more on electricity saving.

In our own little ways, we can all pitch in on electricity saving. By being an energy saver, you do not just help lower your electricity bills you also contribute in saving our planet. Be an electricity saver and you will realize how proud it feels to be one!

Natural Gas Powers Texas

According to the US Dept. of Energy, Texas produces and consumes more electricity than any other state. Over half of Texas' energy comes from natural gas-powered generation plants. Texas produces 25% of the nation's natural gas and is the largest producer; storing and supplying natural gas via pipeline for all regions of the country. Yet while Texas has large reserves of low grade coal, most of what is burned in its coal-fired plants is brought in via train from Wyoming and Montana.

So, it makes sense for Texas electric power generators to rely more on the supply of natural gas in our back yard rather than waiting for the next 10,000 tons of coal to roll in from Wyoming. Natural gas burns cleaner than coal and does not leave behind large amounts of cinder and ash that require proper disposal.

In the past, natural gas was usually uncovered when drilling for oil. Many middle eastern oil companies commonly used natural gas to push oil out from deposits in the earth and then let the gas burn off (called "flaring"). This was because there was neither large local demand for natural gas, nor a way to safely transport it overseas to markets that wanted it.

In Texas, the practice was very different. Natural gas and oil have been twin commodities that helped build Texas. Natural gas pipelines stretch in all directions from Texas and it has long been used throughout the US for heat, light, and electrical generation. So, it's little wonder that in this country its price has long been bound to oil, a commodity in a very volatile market where prices are often shaped by world events. For this reason, power generating companies have paid more for natural gas than coal, nuclear, and wind. Because it is the most expensive and so heavily relied upon, the price of natural gas determines the price of electricity.

When the Wave Broke

Throughout 2007 and into 2008, petroleum and natural gas prices rose due to a popular tide of speculative investment. This drove resource development and innovation in natural gas technologies to bring gas reserves to market. Among these:

The growing Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) trade is expected to increase at 6.7 percent per year until 2020. New fleets of inexpensively built ships and refineries expanded the industry worldwide. LNG now involves 15 exporting countries and 17 importing countries, including the US.

Qatar announced its goal to develop both its Northfield natural gas reserve production (from roughly 54 billion cubic feet in 1995 to 2.7 trillion cubic feet in 2008) and its Gas-to-Liquids capacity. Qatar is now the world's largest LNG exporter.

Developments in horizontal drilling and rock fracturing techniques with high pressure water provide lower-cost access to several huge deposits of natural gas trapped in common shale. These include the Marcellus shale bed and the Barnett shale in Texas (much of it under Ft. Worth) – which has been estimated at holding 26 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and is producing 2 billion cubic feet per day.

In July, 2008, the petroleum/natural gas price wave peaked. Gasoline surged to over $4.00 per gallon and natural gas prices to $13.69 per billion BTU (mmBTU). The cost of Texas electricity exploded.

Inundated with high fuel prices, consumers all across America cut their travel and their energy use. In the fall of 2008, the economy contracted so severely that businesses laid off workers or closed. They stopped using natural gas to heat their buildings and stopped needing electricity to power their machinery. This helped drive down the price of oil, gasoline, and natural gas. But in the case of natural gas, the big developments in LNG supply and natural gas shale brought enormous amounts of natural gas out of the ground. Ready to use, it now lay idle in pipelines, tanks, and ships at sea. With plenty of supply but no demand, the price sank further.

One year after the price peak, the DOE's EIA reported in its weekly natural gas storage report for August, 14, 2009:

"Working gas in storage was 3,204 Billion cubic feet (Bcf) as of Friday, August 14, 2009, according to EIA estimates… Stocks were 562 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 513 Bcf above the 5-year average of 2,691 Bcf."

By September, 2009, natural gas lost over 80% of its July 2008 value and had plummeted to $2.409 per mmBTU. Texas electric rates fell as well.

Big Supply + Little Demand = Low Price

Because of booming US domestic supply, natural gas' price tumble has decoupled it from oil's price. As analyst Fadel Gheit put it, "[O]il is a global commodity; gas is a regional commodity. You can have a huge discrepancy in gas prices from country to country, from continent to continent, because of a lack of adequate transportation – the means of shipping to take gas from where it's found in abundance to where it's needed."

As a regional commodity now, present US domestic natural gas prices are somewhat insulated versus shocks from international problems. New shale deposits being drilled throughout the lower 48 states provide a more stable supply and stable pricing. As a result, LNG imports to the US are dropping, prompting the United Nations International Energy Agency's chief economist, Fatih Birol, to forecast a world-wide natural gas glut continuing through 2015.

In an interview with Bloomberg News, energy commodities analyst Stephen Schork painted this picture of the current natural gas supply: "We have more gas than we know what to do with in the U.S.; we have more waterborne gas floating around the world's oceans that doesn't have a home."

When natural gas prices began their slide, many natural gas companies capped their wells and cut their production. The EIA recently reported in its Short Term Energy Outlook:

Total marketed natural gas production is estimated to have increased by 3.7 percent in 2009, despite a 59-percent decline in the working natural gas rig count from September 2008 to July 2009.

Even Qatar announced it will not pursue any new development in its North field reserve for another four years.

Right now, the two big drivers of US consumption are its winter and its economy. This winter, an early cold snap increased heating demands for much of the country and even caused a brief $1 price increase. Though faltering, the US economy has improved somewhat since September, 2008. Because of the slight contraction in productivity and the early cold weather, natural gas prices have risen from their September, 2009 low —but they are still 50% lower than their peak in 2008. The EIA statistic for the January 27, 2010 price at the Henry Hub in New York ($5.42 mmBTU) is 14% higher than the same date last year ($4.75).

The big new for 2010 is it's still a natural gas buyer's market. With storage levels still at 5 year highs, enhanced domestic production capabilities, and slow consumption growth, prices are not expected to rise dramatically through 2010. EIA projects that the natural gas spot price at the Henry Hub will increase to an average of $5.25 mmBTU in 2010, which is $1.27 more than the 2009 average of $3.98 mmBTU. Remember, this is an average price; seasonal increases will occur, especially during the summer cooling months in Texas when power demand is at its height.

For Texas electricity consumers, this means that energy prices will remain low through for the rest of the year, though there will be some fluctuation due to seasonal demand, as stated. However, one thing about the near future is certain: consumption of natural gas will increase as economic conditions improve. Businesses will need more people as they will get back to running equipment and machinery – and they will all use more energy. As consumption rises, more generators will burn natural gas to meet that need. Natural gas prices will rise. And so will the price of Texas electricity.

Long Term Solutions for the Texas Energy Consumer

The best thing an electricity consumer in Texas has right now is energy choice. If you sign on to a two year (24 month) plan now, you can lock in the current 2010 rate through 2012. Switching between now and spring when rates are low could save you hundreds of dollars over the next two years. Why? Because you can take advantage of a long term fixed energy plan that locks in the current low energy price. In the near future, the EIA projects that prices will increase in 2011, averaging $6.00 mmBTU as the existing surplus shrinks in the face of a rebounding economy. That's a 13% increase in price. Right now, if your energy plan is locked in at .114 cent/kWh for 1500 kWh per month, you're paying about $171/month. But in 2011 given a 13% average increase, your bill could jump to $193.23/month. That's a difference of $22.23/month or $266.76 for the year.

To maximize your savings for these next two years, you need to act before mid-April because that's when the price begins its annual increase for summer cooling costs.

Building a permanent magnetic generator for your home is a step in the right direction in the energy crisis. You can generate electricity for your home independently from the power companies and not have to worry about causing CO2 fumes to rise into the atmosphere since you are not exhausting any of the non-renewable fuel sources.

However the energy revolution will never really take off until the governments and large corporations become involved and look into alternative sources of energy. A permanent magnetic generator could well be the direction they could take in an effort to produce free energy.

If every individual household had a permanent magnetic generator to run their home independently, the government could also implement larger scale versions to replace the current sources of generating energy and use them to supply the grids with power.

Because of the minimal running and maintenance costs of free energy generators and their self sustaining nature, the price of energy would be significantly lower.

Unfortunately, at the moment the governments are not showing any interest in these revolutionary devices and they are the only ones who have got the resources necessary to bring about the large scale alterations needed to convert the world to free electric energy.

Perhaps they are trying too hard to please the big corporations. A change like this could spell disaster for the oil and the energy generating industries as they would become outdated and eventually obsolete. But isn’t that what forecasters are predicting is going to happen eventually anyway when our non-renewable energy sources run out.

So let’s not wait for it to happen, let’s take action now. This change could be brought about for a tiny fraction of the government’s military budget. Building a permanent magnetic generator to create free energy for your homes works. This is proof that the technology can work regardless of the scale.

If you would like to learn more about building a permanent magnetic generator for your home and You can see the potential such a device can have in our increasingly energy starved world go to http://www.permanentmagneticgenerator.info/ and find out more.

It seems like every time I turn on the news or open the morning paper there is something about ‘renewable energy sources’. I felt like I had been living under a rock because I wasn’t sure at all of what this was or how it would affect me. So, like many of you I decided to research it.

Renewable energy basically stands for ‘natural resources’. So renewable energy resources are ways of obtaining energy through natural things we can find in our environment.

Examples of renewable energy resources which you have most likely heard of are wind and sunlight. A few sources of renewable energy that you may not have heard of as I had not are water, rain and tides.

Wind Power

A renewable energy source you may have seen in recent years is the wind power resource. Usually wind power is seen in the form of a wind turbine or windmill. A windmill works like this; as the wind powers the mill in circles, energy is created.

So, the more wind more energy will be created. Because of this, countries tend to put their wind turbines in areas where stronger and more consistent winds are known to be. These areas are usually in high altitude sites and near the oceans.

Overall, wind as a renewable energy source is one of the more preferred sources as it is proven to work efficiently. There are no tricks to wind power; as long as there is wind there will be an energy source.

The only criticism of wind power however as a universal renewable energy resource, is that in order to fully provide sources of energy to the world or even parts of the world, there would have to be wind turbines everywhere and critics fear we do not have enough land for that.

Water power

Another renewable energy source which you have most likely seen several times in your life but maybe weren’t aware it was a source of renewable energy is water power.

Water power as a source of energy can be in the form of hydroelectric energy, micro hydro systems, damless hydro systems, ocean energy in the form or marine current power, ocean thermal energy conversion and tidal power, and wave power.

Water as a source of renewable energy is a little more difficult to explain and to understand. While wind power is something you can see and is something abstract that you can actually imagine taking place, water power as a renewable energy resource is a bit more complex.

Imagine that there is actually energy in the water of the oceans, streams and lakes. Now, imagine that energy is 800x more powerful than energy in the air provided by the wind turbines.

If you want to get technical, this is because water is 800x denser than air but for simplicity sake let’s just say water is 800x more full of energy than the air and wind.

So, if you take all this energy and put it in one area such as is done with a dam, you can use that power from the water as energy. This is called hydroelectric energy and can be seen in the form of a dam. There are also renewable energy sources that utilize water however are not in the form of a dam.

These sources are called Damless hydro systems. Damless hydro systems utilize the energy from water such as rivers and oceans without using a dam. The ocean is a huge source of renewable energy. A main source of energy from the ocean is called Tidal Power. Essentially, we use tidal power for energy by ‘capturing’ the energy from the tides.

There are two ways in which to capture energy from tides. The first way is to capture energy from the tides in a vertical direction. What this means is, when the tides come into the shore, water levels in pre-setup basins rise and then the tide rolls out.
The water that was captured in the basin that was setup is then put out through a turbine (like the wind turbine but for water) and the potential energy is stored until it is used.

Tidal power

The other tide energy source is from tidal motion in a horizontal direction. This means that we are using tidal stream power kind of like wind turbines but we are using generators for the tidal streams.

Again, imagine that water is 800x times more full of energy than the air and wind are. This means the little bit of water that is captured from the tides can provide that much more energy than the air and wind going through the wind turbines.

Wave power is another water powered source of renewable energy. Like the tides and the windmill, wave power is gathered by wave power machines which capture the energy released from the waves. This source of renewable energy has reached a commercial level recently as well.

Using ethanol for your vehicle is another renewable energy source which has been particularly popular in the media lately. Surely you have heard of hybrid cars well, using ethanol instead of pure gasoline to run your vehicle is one step to being close to hybrid.

Basically, ethanol is not pure gasoline so right there we are going to improve our environment. Ethanol is a blend of alcohol and sugar combined with already existing gasoline to create a lesser percentage of pure gasoline to run a vehicle.

The use of renewable energy resources is bringing many nations together because they are seeing eye-to-eye on this issue. Currently nine countries have decided to implement a universal renewable energy resource agreement.

These nine countries are Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Implementing a universal renewable energy resource program or agreement has been a very big undertaking however is having very positive results.

Through the various countries and continents coming together and cooperating in identifying ‘best practice’ solutions for the renewable energy resource movement, nations have been coming together and agreeing on many of the most important issues facing on our planet today.

As I write this, the international climate change summit looks set to go the way of so many political get-togethers: failure, hypocrisy, delay and shunting the problem on to future governments and future generations. However, when our governments fail to lead us, perhaps we can lead them. Free, environmentally sound power may seem like an unlikely solution. Solar panels and wind generators cost a fortune right? Well no actually, you can have free power, after only a small initial outlay and a little time and effort.

Not only that but your free power will keep coming and coming, solar panels in particular have no moving parts and they will take many years to wear out if not damaged by some kind of impact or physical accident. Wind turbines do have moving parts and items like bearings may need replacing or overhauling every few years, but that's all.

Governments, power companies and nay sayers will tell you that renewables can never replace nuclear, or coal, or gas fired power stations and as things stand they may be right. Frankly though, if every household in the developed world reduced its dependence on power brought in by national grids and power companies, by adopting the use of solar panels and wind turbines, the need for new power stations would go into reverse. In fact it's just possible that where wind farms, hydro and tide power cannot supply all our needs now, maybe they could if we all took a little power into our own hands.

How often do you get the chance to do something good and profit from it financially? If you don't want to, or can't afford to spend out on professionally installed solar and wind power, easy to follow plans to build your own, from inexpensive, readily available components, with minimal tools and little expertise are available.

Don't pass the problem on to your kids, help change the environment for the better, learn new skills, maybe share the building of you own mini home power station with your kids, teaching them new skills at the same time you demonstrate to them your care for the world they will inherit. Maybe even consider making a business out of it, or create a neighborhood project to bring people together and inspire other communities round about.

Every amp you generate will save you money, month in, month out for years and reduce your dependence on power produced using dirty or dangerous technologies. Free clean power, it's not a dirty word and it doesn't have to be a dirty world.

I agree with the opinion that we, as a nation and even worldwide, must begin to control environmental conditions. It is becoming more and more obvious that our current and continual downslides are just as important to attempt to control. The environmental conditions of our world are just as the continued production of any other industry essential to the survival of human beings, if not more.

More and more one hears of the environmental issues that have risen as well as the ways in which to help improve the environment. Many people are coming to appreciate the fact that we are destroying our world, and that we must take steps to improve the environment and environmental threats that surround us.

Wind turbines collect energy from natural air flow. When this happens, due to the function of wind turbines, the air slows down and then spreads, diverting it around the wind turbine device or devices.

Here is a condensed idea of how the wind turbine works:

1. The Betz Limit

o	Betz Law or, the Betz Limit determined that the use of a wind turbine can generate almost fifty-nine percent of the energy that would flow straight through the cross section in the construction of a turbine.

o	No matter what kind of wind turbine or wind turbines one has, regardless of design, the Betz Limit applies.

o	Albert Betz, a physicist from Germany, discovered this fact: that a wind turbine works (almost universally) as an incredibly effective kind of energy net for wind power.

o	Albert Betz made this discovery in the year 1919.

2. The Unpredictability of Windy Weather

o	Because windiness varies no matter where you live, it is impossible to predict exactly how much wind can be generated over a significant period of time such as the yield per year.

o	In addition, different places have different probabilities of amounts of wind distribution.

o	The most frequently used piece of equipment used to determine the wind speed distribution is a two ? parameter Weibull distribution monitor.

o	This piece of equipment is used to determine what have been termed 'distribution shapes? from Gaussian to exponential.

For example: The Rayleigh model

This is a specific form of the Weilbull distribution function. In such a case, the distribution shape should be a parameter that equals two. Imitating or mirroring the distribution shapes, the Rayleigh model of the exact hourly wind speeds and patterns of a particular area.

3.	Higher Wind Speed

o	Because in certain places there is so much wind power to draw from, a lot of the wind in such places comes in gusts or short bursts.

o	Here's a good example:

When comparing the size of fueled power plants to the potential power of wind turbine farms, one will find that 10000 kW of wind turbine power is theoretically enough to produce as much power and energy as approximately one half of that, in power generation that is coal ? fired.

o	Despite unpredictability, the annual reports of wind turbine energy output usually vary by only a few points from year to year.

4.	Turbine Sitting ? when location is key:

o	The general rule is that when a location has an average wind speed of ten miles per hour it is a perfect location for wind generators.

o	Meteorology plays a very important part in the determination of exactly where to set up a wind farm or any other kind of wind turbine generator.

o	Ideally, one wants a location with a constant stream of wind as opposed to turbulent, gusty high mph winds.

o	The wind will virtually always blow faster at higher altitudes because of reduced drag from the sea or land, as well as the subsequently lower amounts of viscosity in the wind current.

o	Very flat lands with smooth average speed winds are great locations for wind turbines as well.

5.	Wind Parks and / or wind Farms of have many wind power turbines installed.

o	Utility-scale wind turbine generators have to have limits for the operating minimum.

o	This can prevent the application of a wind power generation system in especially cold areas

o	There are, however, many experiments in the making. There are internal heaters, heating lubricants, and minimum temperature monitors to consider in the installation and use of wind turbines.

More and more one hears of the environmental issues that have risen as well as the ways in which to help improve the environment. Many people are coming to appreciate the fact that we are destroying our world, and that we must take steps to improve the environment and environmental threats that surround us.

Professionals have estimated that 1% to 3% of the Sun's energy, the energy that hits the earth, transforms into wind energy. To give you an idea of how much energy this is, in simple terms: it is about fifty to one-hundred times the amount of energy that is produced by plant life and biomass over the entire earth.
