It is estimated that our natural resources will be completely depleted within the next 150 years. It is because of this that we as a society need to be actively searching for sources of alternative energy.
Alternative energy, whether it is used to replace fuels such as coal, or to reduce our reliance on petroleum based fuels; alternative energy is one of the most important issues facing society today.
The two most common types of alternative energy are:
* Wind power
* Solar power
Both of these alternative energy sources are harnessed from natural resources, and as such are completely free. Only the equipment and technology cost money, and over time as we advance the costs should be reduced.
It is these free sources of alternative energy that we should be pursuing with the most fervency, so that, eventually, energy can be available to all regardless of income. Below we will take a look at these two most common sources of alternative energy.
Wind Power
Wind power, while a free source of alternative energy, would be the most costly type of renewable energy to power our nation. This is largely in part to the fact that we must first place wind turbines across the country, in enough numbers to provide electricity to communities nationwide, even in areas where the wind velocity is not as strong. The cost of building enough of these turbines to harness the wind's alternative energy would be staggering.
Also these wind turbines are very unsightly and would ruin very beautiful and scenic parts of the country. It should also be noted that they only produce power 1/8 of the time that they are running. That is not very efficient, but we are on the right track, things just need improvement.
Another problem I see with wind turbines is the amount of profit many companies stand to make for putting them in. Individuals are making millions off of this and that is just not right when our well-being is at stake.
However, if you're interested in using wind power as your own source of alternative energy, it is a viable option. Many farms and rural communities use these wind turbines to power themselves. In smaller numbers, the cost of building the turbines pays for itself relatively quickly. But wind energy is only one form of alternative energy. Next, we will look at using solar power as an alternative power source.
Solar Power
Solar power is alternative energy derived from the power of the sun. Solar energy is also completely free, except for the cost of installing the equipment necessary to convert the sun's rays into usable electricity. This equipment is becoming less and less expensive every day. Solar power generally ends up paying for itself within the first few years.
The equipment needed to use solar power as an alternative energy source for your home can be bought at virtually any home improvement store, and can usually be installed in just a few hours. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, there are a great number of contractors available who can install your solar panels and generators for you.
Regardless of which type of alternative energy you choose to use in your own home, the fact remains that we must find a renewable source of energy soon, or be at risk of losing the few natural resources we have left to burn. Contact your Congressman today, and ask what is being done to find a good source of alternative energy; and what you can do to help.

Madison Greene is like anybody else. She is interested in saving the planet and finding alternatives for depleting natural resources.
The Ocean, Nuclear and Solar Power are forms of alternative energy which can be developed.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a potential alternative energy source that needs to be funded and explored much more than it presently is.

There are three kinds; closed, open and hybrid cycle of OTEC.

“Closed Cycle” uses a low-boiling point liquid such as, for example, propane to act as an intermediate fluid. The OTEC plant pumps the warm sea water into the reaction chamber and boils the intermediate fluid. This results in the intermediate fluid's vapor pushing the turbine of the engine, which thus generates electricity. The vapor is then cooled down by putting in cold sea water.

“Open Cycle”. The sea water itself is the driver of the turbine engine in this OTEC format. Warm sea water found on the surface of the ocean is turned into a low-pressure vapor under the constraint of a vacuum. The low-pressure vapor is released in a focused area and it has the power to drive the turbine. To cool down the vapor and create desalinated water for human consumption, the deeper ocean's cold waters are added to the vapor after it has generated sufficient electricity.

“Hybrid Cycle” There are actually two sub-theories to the theory of Hybrid Cycling. The first involves using a closed cycling to generate electricity. This electricity is in turn used to create the vacuum environment needed for open cycling. The second component is the integration of two open cyclings such that twice the amount of desalinated, potable water is created that with just one open cycle.

Developing Nuclear Power as Alternative Energy

Nuclear power plants are very “clean-burning” and their efficiency is rather staggering. Nuclear power is generated at 80% efficiency, meaning that the energy produced by the fission reactions is almost equal to the energy put into producing the fission reactions in the first place. There is not a lot of waste material generated by nuclear fission—although, due to the fact that there is no such thing as creating energy without also creating some measure of waste, there is some. The concerns of people such as environmentalists with regards to using nuclear power as an alternative energy source center around this waste, which is radioactive gases which have to be contained.

Solar Energy Collecting as an Alternative Energy Source

Solar powered electricity generation is certainly good for the environment, as this alternative form of producing energy gives off absolutely zero emissions into the atmosphere and is merely utilizing one of the most naturally occurring of all things as its driver. Solar collection cells are becoming slowly but surely ever more practical for placing upon the rooftops of people's homes, and they are not a difficult system to use for heating one's home, creating hot water, or producing electricity. In the case of using the photovoltaic cells for hot water generation, the system works by having the water encased in the cells, where it is heated and then sent through your pipes.

Our country reels from energy-related problems. The price of gasoline continues to rise. More threats come from the unpredictable economic and political conditions in the Middle East, Iraq, Iran and other countries. If anything, these problems have indicated the extent of dependence of the United States economy on imported oil.
The need to chart new directions on the matter of energy production and supply has become unavoidable for Americans. We need to cut our dependence on imported oil and find viable alternative energy sources. Experts contend that the time for relatively cheap fuel is over, and that we must be ready to pay for its escalating cost unless we succeed in developing cost-effective alternative energy sources. With our technologically-advanced and energy-dependent society, the need for fresh technologically and financially viable alternative energy cannot be avoided.
The environmentalists add their voices to the call for a swift to alternative fuel due to damages inflicted on the environment by petroleum-generated power. Globan warming, water and air pollution have been identified as some of the many environmental risks we expose ourselves to from extensive use of fossil fuel.
Nevertheless, we must also exercise caution in developing alternative energy. Coal, for example, is not inspiring. It is dirty, dangerous to extract, and is also harmful to the environment. Surely, there must be other alternative sources of energy that are safer to process and more environment-friendly, and to which we must turn our primary focus.
Other countries are likewise hard pressed to pursue an alternative energy agenda. It can be assumed that they also contribute to the worsening global climate, and the responsibility for addressing the problem needs to be shared by all. European countries and the United States have made initial advances in the search for alternative energy towards not only reducing their dependence on fossil fuel but also on cleaning up the environment.
The developing countries need to follow our lead in collecting relevant research data and developing alternative energy technologies. The level of government and private research and development collaboration in this field augurs well for strengthening our technological edge. Added benefits thus await from bright prospects of marketing these technologies to other countries.
Other alternative sources of energy that continue to merit further investigation are hydro-electric technology, bio-fuels from trees and beans, natural gas, atomic energy plants, hydrogen cells, and solar energy. Currently getting extra attention from experts is determining the overall viability of wind and solar energy, as well as of generating electricity with hydrogen.
Expectations are high that more sources of better quality alternative energy can be found and put in operation while research and development in this field continues. By then we can look forward to ride our cars and sustain our technologically advanced societies with less fear of further damaging our environment.

The new trend nowadays for homes is to install alternative energy solutions inside it, from the wind turbines producing electricity and the solar collection cells that include hydrogen cells. This is a new technology that continues in the twenty first century and to be continued. There is a lot of need to become energy independent and therefore, households need to rely less on energy derived from fossil fuels and be able to produce alternative energy. Unstable nations are usually the ones who supply fossil fuels; therefore, there is the constant need to become off grid and thus, become independent from this type of production. The fossil fuel industry is maintained by corporation interests, giant oil company directors and some of them are even involved in background conspiracy, therefore creating a vicious circle which cannot give up relying on fossil fuel. There is therefore, a constant pressure on the fossil fuel industry and many alternative energies are thus, overlooked.

However, as many specialists in the field point out, there is the need to develop the distributed generation of alternative energies. We need to restructure the electricity market and do even more research on transmission, distribution infrastructure and diversify the existing means of producing market. Power providers can diversify their businesses by earning back lost revenues through micro generation in the household energy. Therefore, UK analysts have conducted some research and have found out that there are more and more people trying to adopt alternative energies to suit ever-growing energy demands. This trend into adopting alternative energies is encouraged by government recommendation concerning environmental degradation; there is the desire to become energy independent and this is encouraged at all costs. It is therefore, possible to produce all the energy needed in a household by just using alternative energies, such as solar and wind energies combined. These solutions, the solar panels as well as the wind turbines, are likely to become the next big thing in energy suppliers industry.

Alternative energy companies have presumed until now that since traditional prices for energy have remained at the same levels for some time now, it is then possible for micro generation to come in and institute its own prices. After all, if you plan to produce energy at home then through the solar panels and wind turbines, you will only consume what you produce. Therefore, this will make the alternative market very lucrative and thus, a competitor for the traditional energy market.

Current analyses have pointed out that companies should institute techniques through which to encourage the potential of alternative. By opening up the market, success is more likely to be established. For instance, electrical companies in Great Britain have been researching and discovering idea on how to facilitate the wide scale use of geothermal energy; these companies though that geothermal energy could become the energy norm in the future therefore, they were willing to invest in this idea. Through constant effort, one day, alternative energies will become the norm. Another analysis has pointed out that heating through solar energy can be another lucrative alternative to implement in the future. While initially expensive to install such as system, it would become profitable for the long run to use this alternative in the long term, because the benefits obtained from the technology would eventually outweigh the costs. Therefore, one should pay careful attention before installing such a system and especially, make sure they are really eager to pursue that step and not another.

While solar powers has not yet become cost effective to install at larger scales, for instance in corporations, it has become nonetheless an idea worth considering. There are a lot of downfalls to it nonetheless, because especially at a wider scale, one would have to modify a lot of plumbing systems to implement the foundation for the solar energy heating system. In the home however, individual users can reduce the costs for the long run by constantly saving up money from the bills they pay for energy. Therefore, even though the prices for installing alternative energies remain high, the idea will surely catch on in the future.

Florida holds great potential in developing renewable energy utilizing its climate and natural resources. The sunshine state has fantastic solar energy opportunities boasting investment in large-scale solar energy projects and private households installing solar panels to generate electricity and heat up water.

There are many wave energy opportunities in Florida, the Straits Current and Gulf Stream Current are only a few miles away from the shorelines in the south and eastern parts of the state. Those can be used to generate electricity from tidal wave energy.

Light winds make wind energy the least attractive when it comes to renewable energy in Florida, at the same time new technologies in wind energy do give the possibility for home owners to install wind turbines privately and generate their own power in windy areas.

The current government of Florida is pushing for reforms in the energy sector, particularly after recent fossil fuel disasters such as the Deep Horizon explosion and the huge oil spill that followed after it. The ecological impact of catastrophes like this had triggered a large wave of awareness about the ability of states and countries to utilize their natural resources for the benefit of creating clean and sustainable energy. The Obama administration is also pushing towards a new energy bill to boost renewable energy investment all over the United States and get rid of "America's addiction" to oil. This energy bill will have a direct influence on new energy laws passed on a local state level.

Florida has all the potential to become a leader in solar energy attracting large-scale investments that can help the state to create additional new jobs in the energy sector, help meeting the electricity demand during high peak times through out the year and enjoy the environmental benefits that derive from clean, sustainable, renewable energy.

So you've reached the next step of your journey in sustainable living: alternative energy. Solar panels are in my opinion the best option, but they're also a large up front investment. However, you can save tons of money in the long run and severely cut back on your emissions.

Although The Initial Investment Is High, The Savings Are Astronomical.

Most people that get interested in solar energy back out when they see the up front cost. I totally understand, it's a large amount of money that people don't have sitting around to spend on a 10 year or more return on investment. However, the return is gigantic if you play it right.

Depending on what state you live in, you may be eligible for hefty tax rebates each year. Look into this and see how that factors into your expenses. An average home can save around $20,000 over 25 years, or achieve a 200% return on investment.

Calculate On Your Own How Many Panels You Will Need.

I strongly urge you to do the calculations in advance for determining how many panels you will need. Wattage, roof space and sunlight are all critical factors. Not taking these precautions can run the risk that you will be oversold on panels.

A few years ago I decided to do the math on my own for a solar panel system. I stuffed the math away under the couch, and had an estimator come out to do his thing. Not surprisingly, his estimate ended up having me purchase several more panels, also rated at a higher wattage. Being oversold on panels is sadly not uncommon and I urge you to learn as much as you can to safeguard against this.

Consider Building Some Panels On Your Own.

While building your own panels won't create as much free energy as a full-on solar panel system, the experience is very fulfilling and still enables you to save money and cut emissions. Building panels yourself can cost under two hundred dollars to try.

There's tons of information out there on building your own solar panels, and I support looking into this option. You could build a small array in a short time while involving your family to keep it interesting. While buying a full solar panel system has very real long term savings, this method has near immediate results that you can see.

A large amount of headaches can be avoided by doing the legwork yourself. Getting multiple estimates and doing your own math will end up saving you money on the front end, and most likely increase your long term savings too. If you don't feel ready for this yet, I urge you to try building a small panel yourself to understand how it works and what you can save on a smaller scale.

Of course, these suggestions are just the beginning. A complete grasp of solar energy is quite a task and involves many, many factors. However, if you understand the benefits of investing in a full system while also looking into building your own setup, you will be in a great position to benefit and prosper. The more you educate yourself about their characteristics, the happier you will be with your decision in the long run.

There are two main reasons for looking to make your own homemade solar panels.

Firstly there is of course the financial benefits and savings you stand to reap by not only replacing your normal energy source with free solar power but also the substantial savings you stand to make by building your own panel as opposed to buying an off the shelf system which has costs that can run into the many thousands of dollars.

Secondly there is also the added benefit of helping the environment recover from the poor state it is in, by replacing the harmful traditional energy sources such as electricity with the environmentally friendly, renewable form of energy that is solar power.

Many households are driven more by the first reason than the second, this is entirely understandable, the pain in the hip pocket when exorbitant power bills turn up at the mail box is substantial and with the price set to continue to rise for the foreseeable future it makes sense to look at the massivel savings you would get if you turned to a form of energy that is free.

Ironically what does prevent many homeowners from taking up solar energy is the, up until now, large cost of purchasing and installing a system. These systems as mentioned in the opening paragraph, can incur costs that run into the many thousands of dollars. Fortunately there are now a number of DIY (do it yourself) home made solar panels solutions that provide a viable alternative and cost just a fraction of the price to build (around $200).

There are many diy guides you can purchase that will walk you through the surprisingly simple process of building your own home made solar panels.

When it comes to renewable energy, wind and solar are the media darlings. Every time I hear renewable energy mentioned on TV or radio, it's always wind and solar. If geothermal is mentioned, it's an afterthought, and said almost under the announcer's breath. Why? Given the immense importance of the United States' (and the world's) energy future, this is not the time to complacent. The stakes are too high as global warming looms large over our collective heads and the era of easily-accessible fossil fuels winds down. Our transition away from hydrocarbons to renewable energy is way too critical for any of us not to be informed about all available viable options.

Why you ask? Because informed and motivated citizens equates to political action which in turn starts the flow of money for development. We are all influenced by the media and public opinion. This is especially true of politicians. Why do you think they spend so much money doing polling. It is their way of determining what we, the public, want from them. We should also be wanting geothermal energy.

Solar and wind are viable alternatives but they have their detractions. So does geothermal. But given the facts, geothermal, at the very least, deserves equal billing. Actually, the US is already the world's largest producer of electricity from geothermal. A fact that few, outside of the geothermal industry, know. According to the Geothermal Energy Association, "geothermal power makes up a total of 3.15 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity in the United States, its largest producer, and more than 10 GW worldwide." So, while geothermal gets fewer headlines and media attention it actually supplies more mega-watt hours of electricity than either wind or solar.

Geothermal power plants provide what is known as base load power i.e., they produce power at a constant rate, just like coal-fired, natural gas, hydroelectricity or nuclear power plants. Wind and solar energy are generally considered intermittent power sources. That doesn't mean that wind and solar are unimportant, we need all three - four if you add in hydropower. Geothermal resources are not available everywhere, at least not for power plants. Home geothermal heat exchangers are used almost anywhere.

Fortunately, in the US, geothermal development is, albeit quietly, on the rise. According to the Geothermal Energy Association, "geothermal power projects grew 46 percent last year. That's up from about 30 percent growth in 2008." Furthermore, "If all of the planned projects were to go forwards as planned, an unlikely scenario, the total U.S. geothermal capacity would reach today's worldwide capacity of 10 GW — enough to meet the power needs of an average 10 million people or supply 25 percent of California's 2008 power consumption. But advocates believe the ultimate potential to be much larger still."

As mentioned, not all of these planned geothermal projects will go forward. Nonetheless, there's a quite a ground-swell of geothermal exploration and development happening in America and it's happening right beneath our feet, literally and metaphorically.

The bottom line is, it is time geothermal energy started getting it's due. When, and if, you ever talk about renewable energy keep this article in mind. Tell your local politicians you care about funding geothermal exploration. When you see a news report about green energy, send them an email to mention geothermal next time. Start a groundswell. It's our future and the stakes are high. - David Brooks

Do you dream of being energy-independent? Then living "off-grid" might be ideal for you. Many people who live off grid are located in rural locations where electric utility service is not even available. But a growing number of people are looking at it as a personal lifestyle option.

There are a couple of important factors involved in living off-grid. First, you'll need to learn how to use your electricity more mindfully. You won't have to live without it, but you don't want to waste it, either.

Second, you'll want to familiarize yourself with how your solar energy system works, and what type of maintenance it requires. It's advantageous to become somewhat of an expert on your individual system so you could troubeshoot any problem that arises. Becoming an "pro" won't be too hard considering the large amount of available information on solar energy. However, it can require a bit of your time and commitment.

Typically, an off-grid system consists of nine components

1. The photovoltaic array and mounting rack. Wikipedia describes the array as "a linked collection of photovoltaic modules, which are in turn made of multiple interconnected solar cells". The mounting rack is what attaches the array to the roof.

2, the array DC disconnect. This is basically a breaker between the array and the rest of the system. It allows you to disconnect from the system in order to troubleshoot problems with the array.

3 the charge controller prevents the batteries from overcharging.

4, the battery bank stores excess electricity. Because there will be cloudy periods when sunlight is unable to reach your solar cells, you will need about 2 to 3 days worth of stored electricity

5. The system meter. The system meter works like the dashboard of your car. It reports how the various components in your system are performing.

See How You Can Benefit From Off-Grid Solar Energy

6, is the main DC disconnect. This breaker is connected from the batteries to the inverter.

7, is the inverter. This component converts the DC electricity that was generated by the solar cells into the AC (alternating current) electricity that can run your household appliances.

8, the AC breaker panel. This is the same kind of breaker panel that the power company uses to connect your house wiring to its electrical source.

9. The backup generator. This is in case you have a stretch of overcast days that outlast the electricity stored in the batteries. You can use traditional fossil fuels, but you may want to use biodiesel to support your green lifestyle.

Now that you've seen the components of the solar power system, you can understand why it's not that difficult to become your own expert. Each component is pretty simple in and of itself. The only motorized parts are in the backup generator, and you hopefully won't be using that very much.

However, you might consider using magnets... this age old lost technology may yet prove to be the most effective and cost-saving alternative to alternative energy yet.

When we speak of energy, power, and development, we all think development, industrialization, advancement; all these leads to pollution and degradation of the environment. You hear advocates say that our environment was a lot purer in long gone ages because people do not use energy.

=======>  http://energy.provencatalog.com/

Who's Liable?

That is not necessarily true; you see ancient man used fire to cook things, and then the sun to warm them up. Even humanity itself uses energy to be able to move and go about life each day. We cannot survive without energy and yet we blame it for the destruction of our planet. It is us who use energy to no ends, it is us who abuse its use therefore we are liable to find the solution to pollution. It is our responsibility to our selves and the future generation to seek ways of supporting our way of life without harming the environment.

The Scope and Definition of Sustainable Power

Generally sustainable power is thought to be any renewable kind of energy. Meaning it is any puissance whose source cannot be depleted and does not contaminate the environment on a long term basis.

Although sustainable power maybe confused with alternate or green energy the two are distinctly different. Sustainable power is conducive to nature but it is set apart from green or alternate energy because its source is unending, it cannot be exhausted.

Power Source

Sources of sustainable energy vary. It can be as simple as hydrogen to as complex as nuclear energy. When we speak of sustainable development we must consider the basics before heading of to the complex, after all we haven't used the newly scientifically discovered energy long enough to know its possible effects. The first things to consider are those that nature itself supplies; like the air, wind, solar, tidal, and water resources.

Techno Speak

With all the media hype surrounding this idealism you'd think that we aren't already using sustainable energy! Yes, we already are using alternate energy resources. We have water dams, the waterfall power plants, wind mills, geothermal plants, and the nuclear power plants.

There are three technological classifications for the technologies that help us attain sustainable power; these include biomass combustion, hydropower, and geothermal plants. First generation power automatons arose during the industrial revolution. This is the time where people discovered that manufacturing will become faster thru the use of machines, and faster output means larger sales. In a way sustainable power was researched and invented not for the future but for the moment; to improve lives, industry and the economy.

Second Generation energy resources comprise wind power, various forms of modern bioenergy, solar photovoltaics, and solar energy. These technologies emerged from the need to depend on oil so much. Research and Development was massively funded during the 1980's and we are now reaping the benefits.

Third Generation sustainable energy resources are those that relatively new; biorefinery technologies, ocean energy, hot dry rock energy, biomass gasification, concentrating solar thermal power and even nanotechnology may make future appearances that will hopefully end our quest for continuous energy sources. On the stage of research and experimentation these resources are still under development but raise the hopes of those who continually seek sustainable power.

=======>  http://energy.provencatalog.com/

All that have been mentioned are technological advances and discoveries of everlasting energy source, but in the end like everything in our lives, the future is in our hands. Even when we are provided with more nature friendly energy resources if we don't conserve and use it wisely we will still end up damaging the very planet on whose existence and well being we very much depend on.

Even if you've already cut your electricity consumption to the bone, you're still reeling from your energy bill. If you're looking for a source of cheap electricity then you can turn to solar energy. Sunlight is plentiful and renewable and, even better, it's free. All you need is to look is avail of solar power kits to harness the power of the sun.

There are many solar power kits that you can avail of online. They will teach you how to make your own solar panels for less than $200 rather than spending the tens of thousands of dollars a solar panel installation would cost you. Kits use videos to teach you how to build the panels using materials readily available at local hardware stores. In addition, they will also teach you how to build a windmill as a backup cheap electricity system for days when there is no sun.

There are many solar power kits which will give you cheap electricity for your household needs, but which one is right for you? First, determine how easy the kit's instructions are to follow, since you may not have sufficient experience to follow more complicated procedures. Second, would you rather have a kit with all the basic materials already included? Although this may cost you more, it may be worth it to avoid the hassle of putting the materials you need together. Third, if you're more technical minded, you may just want to buy a book on assembling your own solar power system and create your own kit.

In the coming years, as oil reserves dwindle and electricity becomes more expensive, those who did not avail of solar power kits now may find themselves regretting the lost opportunity to have availed of a good source of cheap electricity earlier.

Because of this effect in Energy efficient, ECO and Reduce energy dependence, many countries and areas are involved this electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are propelled by an electric motor (or motors) powered by rechargeable battery packs. For example, Technical Specification for the Recharging System of Electric Vehicles have been formally implemented in shenzhen, China in 2010. This is the first recharging technology standard for electric vehicles promulgated in China, principally specifying relevant technology of recharging station of electric vehicles.

And even earlier in 2009, BYD, the giant in batteries in China, began selling a plug-in electric hybrid car in China, which is at least a year ahead of similar efforts in the U.S. and Japan.

And Australia's first public electric vehicle charge station was recently officially opened by Sydney's Lord Mayor Clover Moore. The charge station is powered by 100% GreenPower supplied by Origin Energy. The station is installed in Glebe, will be used to recharge a converted plug-in hybrid Toyota Prius. It takes 3 hours to recharge the car fully.

But Electric Vehicles (EVs) face significant battery-related challenges. Researchers in the world are working on improved battery technologies to increase driving range and decrease recharging time, weight and cost.

More to say:

The environment is under pressure nowadays. We are threatened. If we don't change, our future generation will suffer the disaster caused by ourselves. The ecology of every corner of the earth is changing! It's time we do something to change now!

Polution, anoxic waters, overpopulation, resource depletion, global warming...

Welcome to share your ideas, experiences on green energy, eco-friendly for a better future. Maybe you are going green in your daily life. Maybe you are using eco-friendly electric vehicles. Maybe you use solar energy, wind power to reduce gas emissions...

It's time for us to change. And it's our chance to change.

Wouldn't it be great if we can produce our own green energy source? If we can do that, we don't have to pay electrical bills or gasoline anymore for our cars. While we can buy some of the equipment, the rest will have to be done on our own.

Take solar or wind energy for example. We already know how to harness and make it. If you want to make one, do some research online and then set up the system yourself.

To have solar energy, you will need to buy an inverter, battery, charge controller, solar panels, some wires and support structure. The only difference with wind energy is that you need a fan. Once you have everything you need, you can put it all together.

If you are not skillful, you will be happy to know that some companies sell the entire system. By buying it from them and having it installed by their experts, you are sure that there won't be any problems the moment you switch it on.

There is one more thing you need before you can use one or the two green energy sources. Before you buy the materials or the system, make sure you have a flat area that is about a hundred square feet or so because it occupies a lot of space.

For those who don't have the space or the budget to use these two energy sources, another option is to create your own biofuels.

Biofuels are used in many countries and they get it from harvesting corn, sugar and other crops. Luckily, you don't need a farm to produce it because you can also make your own using some recycled waste.

A good example of this is vegetable oil which we use for cooking. To turn this into a biofuel, we first filter it by warming up the liquid and then filtering this with a coffee filter. The next step is to remove the water also by boiling it again at 100 degrees for a short period of time.

We need to know the amount of lye present in the vegetable oil and we do this by a process known as titration. When we are done with that, we now mix sodium hydroxide to produce sodium methoxide.

The process of converting used vegetable oil before it becomes a biofuel takes quite awhile and it must be heated the entire time. This is done so the fuel we produce is pure and only when this is achieved that we give it time to cool.

Just how much biofuel we make after all the work varies but you will have an idea of how much you have produced since this is the one you see floating at the top. If there is still some glycerin present, filter it again. From there, you already have your own backyard biofuel which you can use and even sell to those who are just as concerned with the environment as you are.

By making our own green energy sources, we make ourselves less dependent on gasoline in its various forms to power our heater, home or car. Why don't a lot of people do it? Well simply because they don't have the time to make it and would rather rely on someone else to do it for them.

The escalating cost of electricity has raised homeowners' interest in homemade energy to provide their power needs. One of the most popular homemade energy sources is solar energy. Solar energy is generated with the use of photovoltaic (PV) cells which turn sunlight into electricity. The problem is that installing solar panels on your roof can set you back as much as $20,000 to $50,000. So to cut costs many families are exploring how to build a solar panel on their own.

Learning how to build a solar panel, while it may entail a little bit of a learning curve, will not cost you that much and will be more rewarding in the long run. To make your own solar panel, all you need are damaged solar cells that can be salvaged or Indium Copper Selenide cells. You will also need some basic materials such as a soldering iron, a screwdriver, copper wire and an AC inverter. You basically have to solder the cells together in series to make a solar panel. If each cell is assumed to generate half a volt, then you need twenty-four cells to make a 12-volt panel. Instructions on how to build a solar panel are easily found online.

Unfortunately, PV solar panels made in this way will not generate much energy. You can use your homemade PV panels to recharge batteries or to generate energy for night lights. But this simple project can prepare you for more complicated homemade energy projects, so you can learn how to build a solar system that can power many of your home's appliances, for example. And, eventually, if your homemade solar energy panels generate enough electricity, you may even be able to sell some back to your power utility.
